Marie Feltman-Couch

Mrs. Marie Lillian Skipper Feltman Couch was born July 27, 1921 and went home to Jesus on April 7, 2014.

Mrs. Couch was the granddaughter of Jacob Newton and Frances Moody Skipper who held the first meeting of Hanleiter United Methodist Church in their home in 1891.  She was taken to church as a baby and Jacob was instrumental in her accepting Jesus.  She joined Hanleiter Church in May of 1930 when she was 9 years old.  

Marie was always active in Hanleiter Church.  She started teaching Sunday school, teaching the Cradle Roll Class when she was 16 years old.  She taught 3rd and 4th graders for many years, teaching all of her grandchildren, was counselor of M.Y.F. for many years, a member of the Swanson White Sunday School Class, President of the Happy Adults, on the church board, Historian of Hanleiter Church, Secretary of Rosalie McColleen U.M.W. and always a faithful member.  

Marie was preceded in death by her parents Irma Fordham Skipper and Charlie Clifford Skipper; sisters Helen Gill, Ione Foster, Beatrice Skipper, Pauline Skipper; brothers Raymond Skipper, Buford Skipper; granddaughter, Day Buffington and son-in-law Russell Buffington, husband, Howard Arnold Feltman who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 28, 1988 and died on March 19, 1988 and husband Steve Couch.

The family of Marie Feltman Couch would like to say a special “Thank You” to Brightmoor Nursing Center and staff for loving and caring support they have shown their mother and grandmother over the time she has lived there.

Mrs. Couch was survived by her children, Gale Buffington, Terry and Nancy Feltman; grandchildren, Robin Buffington Samples and husband, William Samples, Jack Feltman, Lee Feltman and wife, Mandy Feltman, Russ Feltman and Tracy Williams; great-grandchildren, Russell Samples and wife, Paige, Jacob Feltman, Ansley Feltman, Lauren Feltman; great, great-grandchildren, David Samples, Will Samples, Rhett Samples and Lucas Samples; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mrs. Couch will be Sunday, May 11, 2014 from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Hanleiter United Methodist Church. Following the visitation a celebration of her life will be conducted in the sanctuary of Hanleiter United Methodist Church. Dr. Richard Lumpkin will officiate.  A family interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hanleiter United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 474 Griffin, GA.  30223.
