A. Wayne Smith, age 93 of Griffin, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Eternal Hope Hospice.

 Mr. Smith was born in Griffin, Georgia on July 23, 1924.  He is preceded in death by his, parents Robert G. Smith and Clara Coleman Smith; his son, A. Wayne (Chip) Smith, Jr.; sister, Ruth McEachern; brothers, Robert A. Smith, Eugene Smith, Richard Smith. He graduated from Perry High School, was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II, was a recipient of the Purple Heart for being wounded in France in 1944, a recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars.  He was a retired Vice President with Commercial Bank and Trust, was founder of the Voice of Veterans, a member and past President of the Griffin Kiwanis Club, founder of the Yackity Yack Men’s Breakfast Club, a member of Vineyard Baptist Church. Wayne loved to garden, had the gift of gab and loved to meet people. 

 Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Lewellyn Dearing Smith; daughter, Debbie Smith Maner of Griffin; daughter, Robin Smith Jenkins and husband Danny of Williamson; daughter in law Marvelyn Morris Smith of Vienna; grandchildren, Robert Maner and wife Lillie of Thomaston, Emmie Maner Huffman and huband Troy of Williamson, Justin Jenkins and wife Courtney of Sharpsburg, Elsie Jenkins Grady of Thomaston, Rebecca Jenkins Hoffmann and husband Thomas of Griffin, JerriLynn Smith Wilson and husband Jason of Atlanta, Tripp Smith of Savannah; great-grandchildren, Alex, Caylin, Logan, Luke, Abby and Joseph; several nieces and nephews; caregiver, Claudia Crawley.

A visitation for A. Wayne Smith will be on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be conducted in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury.  Reverend Ralph Simmons will officiate.  Interment will be in Eastview Cemetery in Zebulon, Georgia. Those desiring, may make a contribution to Eternal Hope Hospice, 123 N. 18th St., Griffin, Georgia 30223, in memory of Mr. Smith.
