Mr. James Howell Estes, age 86 of Griffin, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Estes was born in Griffin, Georgia on July 11, 1930. He is preceded in death by his parents, Horace Howell Estes and Cora Lucille Childers Estes; daughter, Debbie Susan Smith. Mr. Estes was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was an Air Traffic Controller at the Atlanta Center until he retired. He enjoyed golfing, singing, camping and most of all spending time with his family. Mr. Estes was a Life deacon at First Baptist Church, Griffin, GA.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Barbara Gardner Estes; children, Connie Estes Owens, Mike Estes and wife, Pam; grandchildren, Brian Smith and wife, Amanda, Miranda Rawson and husband, Chase, Jessica Burns and husband, Dexter, Caroline Schaefer and husband, Chad, John Estes and fiancé Kendall Glenn, Jordan Corbitt and wife, Sara Kay, Arielle Owens, Skye Owens, Sophie Owens, Alli Estes, Conner Corbitt and Mark Estes; 9 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law’s, Roy Land and wife, Judy and Bobby Folds; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation for Mr. James Howell Estes will be on Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 1:30pm until 3:00pm in the parlor at First Baptist Church, Griffin, GA. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 3:00pm, in the sanctuary. Mr. Estes requested the Magna and Bolton Sunday School classes please sit together. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Bolton Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, Griffin, GA, would be greatly appreciated.
