Growing up in small town Barnesville where Deraney's was the only place to buy clothes and trips out of town to shop were very very rare for my family made Mrs. Deraney a friend to everyone. I remember shopping there well and how, if I remember correctly, she and Mr. Deraney ran the store just the two of them. She had alot of sadness in her life but was a very strong woman of faith. I know she will be missed by many. I am Joseph's age and always remember him as kind spirited like his mother.

I am so sorry to hear of Miss Mable's death but she will be remembered fondly. She was always so sweet and took interest in the lives of everyone. Shopping at Deraney's as a child was such a pleasure and I loved Miss Mable and Mr. Joe. They will always be icons in Barnesville. You all will be in my prayers. Love to you all.

Mrs. Deraney was lovely. I was a child in Barnesville during the time of legalized segregation, but the Delaneys welcomed Black families in their store and treated our parents with respect and dignity. Their store was an oasis of acceptance and integrity and I will always remember her kind smile.

Even after I graduated from high school and would return home from college at UGA, I would stop by for one of her smiles and give her mine in return. She would support my efforts and celebrate my accomplishments, much to my surprised delight. I will never forget that.

God bless her soul with eternal peace.

Mable and Joe Deraney are icons to the Barnesville community! There is a whole generation of people who will always think of them when they think of a Barnesville ! With these two very special people goes a legacy that will stand forever!
It is never easy to say goodbye , but my prayer for the family is that you will find comfort knowing that there are so many people in the Barnesville " family" who are sharing your grief and praying for you.

Mrs Mable was a special lady. I loved to go down to Derany's with Mama to shop. "Miss" Mable always made you feel special and grown up. When was little I could hardly wait to be grown enough to wear the beautiful clothes. As an adult when I think of Barnesville I she's one of my favorite memories.

Dear Deraney Family: I extend my sincerest condolences, to you and your family, for the recent loss of your beloved one. It is obvious that Mrs. Deraney will be greatly missed and such loss is always very painful; but the Bible tells us that " our Heavenly Father is the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort"(2 Cor. 1:3). Life is a precious gift from Almighty God and losing our love ones to death was not his original purpose; but soon he will bring this pain to an end by "swallowing up death forever"(Isaiah 25:8). I truly hope you find comfort in these scriptural thoughts.
