Mr. Richard “R.J” or “Jim” Simmons, age 73, of Griffin, passed away Friday May 19, 2017 at his daughter’s residence.

Mr. Simmons was born April 14, 1943 in Dooly, GA. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Laura Gail Simmons; parents Willie “Mutt” Claude Simmons and Addie Lou Wright Simmons. Mr. Simmons retired from General Motors with over 30 years service. He also enjoyed the outdoors and hunting with his dogs, and watching dirt bike racing with his son and grandchildren.

Mr. Simmons is survived by his son Curt (Sharon) Simmons of Brooks; daughter Starlyn (fiancé Todd Hicks) of Dallas, GA; grandchildren Ryan (Ashley) Simmons, Cole Simmons and Morgan Simmons; great-granddaughter Noelle Simmons; brother Ralph (Katie) Simmons; brothers in law Lewis (Barbara Jean) Herndon and Virgil (Michelle) Herndon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Simmons will be Monday, May 22, 2017 from 11 am until 12:30pm at Conner Westbury Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service and internment will be conducted on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Brooks Memory Gardens, Brooks, GA. Reverend Ralph Simmons will officiate.
