Mr. Thomas Gwynn Stewart, Sr., passed away on September 10, 2017, at The Gardens Senior Living in Fayetteville, Georgia. He was born in Griffin, Georgia to Millard Lee and Frances Marie Lackey Stewart on March 30, 1939. Preceding him in death are; his parents, brothers; Donald Leon Stewart, Larry Edwin Stewart and Millard Lee Stewart, Jr., sister; Mary JoAnne and her husband, Milton Edward Cook, Sr.

After receiving a medical discharge from the US Navy in 1959, Thomas began his career in 1960 with American Can Company in Forest Park, Georgia and retired from the company with more than 35 years of service. He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast who enjoyed Atlanta Braves baseball, Atlanta Falcons and University of Georgia football games. He was also very supportive of his children in their sports activities at school and local recreation teams (coaching some of their recreation teams for several years). Watching his children participate in sports, especially basketball and baseball, were some of his most enjoyable and special activities with his children. He was a member of Ash Street Baptist Church in Forest Park, Georgia. When he became unable to attend church services, he enjoyed the Sunday Worship Services and mid-week Bible Study offered in the Senior Living Facilities where he resided in Peachtree City and Fayetteville, Georgia.

Left to cherish Thomas’ memory are his sons; Thomas G. Stewart, Jr. and his wife Suzanne Michelle of Fayetteville, Georgia, Joel Andrew Stewart, Sr. and wife Anna Louise of Gainesville, Georgia; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth and husband James Albert Hilliker of Woodbury, Georgia; grandsons, Joel Andrew Stewart, Jr., Christopher Thomas Stewart, Ryan Daniel Stewart and Christian Stewart Hayes; granddaughters, Miranda Katherine Hayes, Merritt Emily Stewart and Jessica Noel Hilliker; sisters in law, Sarah Scroggs Freeman and husband William of Griffin, Moira Dulligan Stewart of Huntsville, Alabama, Nancy Patrick Stewart of Belleview, Florida and Anne Lord Stewart of Griffin; a number of nieces and nephews and Katherine Scroggs Stewart.

The family would like to thank Southern Grace Hospice for all the care they provided Thomas and the support they gave the family during this difficult time as well as The Gardens of Fayetteville for all their kindness to him and the family.

A visitation for Mr. Thomas Gwynn Stewart will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Jim Weathers will officiate. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516 or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, FL 33607.
