Name: Becky Buchanan Date: April 2nd, 1926 - June 9th, 2010 Obituary: Ms. Becky Buchanan, age 84 of Fernandina Beach, Fl., passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville. Ms. Buchanan was born in Griffin, Georgia, the daughter of the late Guinn C. and Martha Sams Powell. She was a graduate of Spalding High School, Class of 1943. Ms. Buchanan had resided for a period of time in the Covington area before moving to Chamblee in the mid 1970’s. In 1992, she moved to Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, in Florida. She enjoyed water color painting, primarily landscapes and old country scenes. Ms. Buchanan was a volunteer at Baptist Medical Center-Nassau and the Amelia Art Association, where she oftentimes displayed her paintings. She was a Presbyterian by faith. Ms. Buchanan leaves behind her daughter, Joan Jordan (Lewis) of Fernandina Beach, Fl.; a granddaughter, Katie Knerr of Neptune Beach, Fl.; three sisters, Sara Jane Reed of Brandon, Fl., Gwendolyn Skrine of Griffin, GA., Elizabeth Williams of Griffin, GA., and several nieces and nephews. Graveside memorial services for Ms. Becky Buchanan will be conducted on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the family section of Oak Hill Cemetery.
