Name: Dr. James Dougherty Date: April 22nd, 1942 - July 20th, 2010 Obituary: Dr. James Dougherty, age 68 of Griffin, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Dr. Dougherty was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 22, 1942 to the late Robert Dougherty and the late Iona Jones Dougherty. He served in the United States Army Dental Corps. Dr. Dougherty was a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Griffin. Dr. Dougherty attended Oklahoma Baptist University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He attended the University of Tennessee where he received his Doctorate in Dentistry. He was a Trustee of the University of Tennessee Dental Alumni Board. Dr. Dougherty completed his Orthodontic training at the West Virginia University School of Dentistry. He was a member of the American Orthodontics Association, the American Dental Association, the Georgia Orthodontics Association, the Georgia Dental Association, and was the Past President of Georgia Association of Orthodontics, Northern District of Dental Society, and member of numerous other organizations. Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie Dougherty; brother and sister-in-law, Neal and Ann Dougherty of Altadena, CA; mother-in-law, Marie McGinnis; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patsy and Harvey Love of Moody, AL; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Dr. James Dougherty will be conducted on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Griffin. Dr. Bill Hardee will officiate. Friends may visit the family on Thursday from 12:00 noon until the hour of service.
