Angela M. Griggs

Angela Mathis Griggs passed away at Eternal Hope Hospice on Friday, January 10th, 2020. Angela was born in 1944 in Converse, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Arthur Fay Mathis and Pauline Elliott Mathis. She finished high school at Cowpens High School in Cowpens, South Carolina in 1962. She went to Business College in Spartanburg, South Carolina and married J. Wayne Griggs in the fall of 1962. They moved to Clemson, South Carolina and lived on campus until he finished his degree in 1965. Wayne went into the Air Force as an aircraft maintenance officer and they lived in Illinois for four years. After the Air Force, they lived in Dunn, North Carolina for five years and moved to Griffin, Georgia in 1977. Angela worked for the law firm of Carlisle & Newton and then as the assistant to the administrator at Spalding Regional Hospital. She spent her last working years at the Griffin Country Club.

Angela is survived by her husband J. Wayne Griggs of Griffin and two daughters: Jennifer Caravella and husband Jim of Chandler, Arizona and Julie Huffman and husband Greg of Griffin, Georgia. She is also survived by four grandchildren: James Sebastian Caravella Jr., and Michael John Caravella, both of Phoenix, Arizona and Emma Catherine Huffman and Ethan James Huffman, both of Griffin.

A visitation will be Tuesday, January 14, 2020 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church, followed by a funeral service in the sanctuary. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
