Mrs. Betty Jo McDowell Post, age 87 of Griffin, Georgia, passed away on January 1, 2018 at Brightmoor Hospice.

Mrs. Post was born November 12, 1930 in Douglasville, Georgia. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Wylie Post, and by parents Claude and Pauline McDowell, siblings Burnell McDowell, Mary Tuggle Brown, Clyde Young; sons-in-law Durell Purmort and Floyd Thomas.

She is survived by five daughters, Terrie Purmort, Patricia Purmort (Marlin), Karon Williamson (Don), Bobbie Ellison (James), and Carol Morris (Jimmy), brothers Tony McDowell and Buddy McDowell, 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Post was a homemaker who lovingly cared for her family and later in life retired from Wynn’s Pharmacy. Welcoming the opportunity to cook and bake for her family and friends, her gift of hospitality brought joy to many. She was also a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher for many years.
