Barbara Cook

Mrs. Barbara Hall Cook, age 88 of Columbus, formerly of Griffin, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus.
Barbara was born in Binghamton, New York, on May 28, 1934. After graduating from Santa Barbara High School in California, her family moved to Griffin where she put down roots and earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Georgia. For a short while, she and her husband lived in Ocala, Florida, where she gave birth to their only son.
Mrs. Cook was retired from the Clayton County Board of Education as a media specialist where she received the prestigious Teacher of the Year award in 1987. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, and entertaining family and friends in her home. Barbara was a long-time member of First Christian Church in Griffin.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Lewis Hall and Ruth Dibble Hall; husband, James R. Cook; brother, Carlton S. Hall; sister, Beverly Hall Reynolds; brother-in-law, Rear Admiral Richard C. Allen; brother-in-law, Louie Reynolds and nephew, Todd Reynolds.
She is survived by her son, Jim Cook; grandchildren, Mariah (Garrett) McLendon, Tyler Cook; great grandchildren, Rhodes McLendon, Emerie McLendon; nieces, Sheri Reynolds, Laura Hall; sister-in-law, Peggy Hall Allen; daughter-in-law, Jana Prine.
A visitation will be on Friday, September 23, 2022, from 11:00am until 12:30pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a graveside funeral service will be conducted in Oak Hill Cemetery at 1:00pm with Reverend Steve Womack officiating.
