Ms. Barbara J. Williams Gilford (Big Mama), age 88 of Griffin, Georgia passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021.
Ms. Gilford was born in Griffin, Georgia on July 16, 1932. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jas and Tommie Barkley Williams; son, Vincent Jerome (Red) Gilford; grandson, Armad Rashad (Red) Starks; and 16 brothers and sisters. She worked at Little People’s Day Care and as a nutritionist for Spalding County Annex. She was a dedicated member of Eight Street Baptist Church where she served as a greeter and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 8480. She was also a proud member of the NAACP. Ms. Gilford was an avid walker. She enjoyed walking everywhere she could.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Shelia (Peaches) Flynt, (Dock); and Mrs. MonteCarlo (Cream) Garner, (Wilbur) of Stockbridge, GA. and one sister-in-law, Gloria Gilbert-Owens of Evansville, IN. Her grandchildren are Mrs. Mohammed Martin (Demitrick) of Jacksonville, FL; Mrs. Keene Starks Wright (Jeffery); Mrs. Raquel Garner Triplett (El-Hajj) of Stockbridge, GA; Ms. Brittany Garner, of Atlanta, GA; Mr. Omah Jerkeem Starks; Mr. Doctarus Lamon Flynt (Tameka); Mr. Christopher Flynt (Quella) of Suffolk, VA; and Ms. Rochelle and Mr. Vincent, Jr. of Evansville, IN. Her great-grandchildren are Mr. Jamal Wright, Mr. Jordan Wright; Shayla McDaniel, Sean McDaniel, and Makayla Starks of Locust Grove, GA; Raina and El-Hajj II of Stockbridge, GA; Ms. Shy’Keiria Starks of Ft. Mitchell, AL; Nikolai Starks of Newnan; Levi Starks, Isaiah Starks; and a host of other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her nieces and nephew are Ms.Thomasine Williams-Hyden of Sicklerville, NJ; and Ms. Barbara Washington, Ms. Debbie Washington, and Mr. Howard Washington all of Philadelphia, PA.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Renaissance Care and Rehab and Compassus Hospice for all the love, care and supported they showed to Ms. Barbara Gilford.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 17, 2017 from 1:30 pm until 2:00 pm. Followed by a memorial service in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. The family requests all to wear a face mask.
