Tribute

Barbara Theus Marcoux, 58, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Pursuing her passion and calling to be a teacher she graduated from Tift Women’s College in 1983 with her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Starting her first year as a teacher for the 1983/84 school year as a third-grade elementary school educator in Hilliard, Florida. She knew that first year that it was never a job for her, but something she truly aspired and was blessed to do in her passion for working with children. In 1987 she returned to her home state of Georgia where she would teach first grade in the Lamar County Schools for the 1987/88 school year. She then moved to teach in the Griffin-Spalding School System to teach at Ann Street elementary, for three years. It was during this time in the Griffin-Spalding County Schools that she would enroll at Georgia State University to obtain her master’s degree in early childhood education. After Anne Street she transferred to Jackson Road Elementary where she would complete her studies at Georgia State with her master’s degree and applied her skills, gifts, and abilities to so many young children that benefit from her as an educator. She was blessed to experience on several occasions where she taught and nurtured the children of children she had previously educated. She would happily remain at Jackson Road until her retirement in 2021.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Marcoux who lovingly cared for her during her final year with us, and her two sons, Thomas Melvin and John Melvin of Augusta, Georgia.
