Barbara Ann Wellmaker known to friends and family as “Bob “passed away on October 5, 2017. Barbara was born on November 30, 1939 in Griffin Spalding County, Georgia to Marguerite Wellmaker and James Dumas. At an early age, she accepted Jesus and joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church where she served faithfully. She was a member of the Usher Board, Children Ministry and worked diligently with the Rights of Passage Program.
A native of Griffin, GA, Barbara was educated in the Griffin Spalding School System. She is a graduate of Fairmont High School, Class of 1958. After graduating from Fairmont, Barbara worked for the State of New York Migrant Workers Program and for the next year traveled extensively across the country. After returning to Griffin, she enrolled in Morris Brown College, Atlanta, GA and earned a degree in Education. She taught over 30 years in the Griffin Spalding County School System at both Fairmont High School and Griffin High School. After her retirement, she continued to volunteer and work with children throughout the community.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Marguerite Wellmaker and James Dumas; a Special Aunt Wenomia Atkins Goodrum. She leaves to mourn her family; Wenomia Goodrum, Bruce Hosely (Liz), Reginald Goodrum, Michael Goodrum (Precious), Gregory Wellmaker, Sr. (Deborah), Gerald Davis, Tami Miller (Asward), Deatrice Gaines, George Atkins, Special Caregivers Randy Gray and Courtney Person, two dedicated and faithful friends – Martha Taylor and Eleanor Tanks, a host of other relatives and friends
A visitation will be on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home.
A Celebration Life will be conducted on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 11:00 am, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Griffin, GA.
