Mrs. Betty Jo Tyus Langford, age 91, passed away peacefully March 30, 2020 at the Woods Senior Center in Griffin, Georgia. Mrs. Langford was born on February 18, 1929 in Griffin, daughter of the late Roscoe Edison Tyus and the late Lois Hand Tyus Cox.
She grew up in Griffin, Georgia and graduated from Griffin High school where she was a varsity cheerleader. She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville.
As a young adult, she enjoyed working for Gossett’s Ladies Ship in downtown Griffin and worked for the Spalding County Recreation Department. She married Paul Flynt Langford on August 16, 1950. Mr. and Mrs. Langford were married 60 years until his death in 2010. Mrs. Langford was active in community service as a member of the Griffin Utility Club and was a member of the Kiwanis Club Ladies Auxiliary- The Kiwaniannes. She joined First Baptist Church of Griffin as a youth and later transferred membership to Griffin First United Methodist Church upon her marriage. She enjoyed friendship and fellowship in the JOY Sunday School Class and was a member of the Guild Circle. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ella Catherine Tyus Raines, Lois Tyus Williams, and Lillian Tyus Cartledge and brothers-in-law, Harry Raines, Jim Williams, Karl Cartledge, John Nolan O’Farrell and Judge John S. Langford.
Mrs. Langford is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Dick Brooks, son and daughter-in law, Rocky and Jane Langford; daughter, Gwen Langford, of all Griffin. Grandchildren; Dr. Bryan Brooks (Heidi) of Franklin, TN; Kevin Brooks (Kristie) of Saint Simons Island, GA; Lindsey Brooks of Brunswick, GA; Joe Langford (Destiny) of Griffin, GA; Jack Langford (Jen Solokow, fiancée) of Stone Mountain, GA and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Tyus O’Farrell of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Margaret Ellis Langford of Atlanta, and brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Yvonne Langford of Griffin and 13 nieces and nephews.
Due to the current restrictions in place by the county, a private graveside service will be conducted with only immediate family in attendance on Wednesday, April 1, 2020.
