Claude Melvin George, J.D., age 76, passed away on April 22, 2021 with his family at his side. He was the youngest of three children born to John George and Ruby Lee Hicks. He was born on February 22, 1945 in Yuma, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Beverlee Jean Cavanagh George and their two sons Matthew David George of Atlanta and Patrick Michael George of Griffin. He had two siblings, Barbara Renee Lasko who resides in California, and Calvin John George of Chino Valley, Arizona who preceded him in death. 

He attended McGeorge School of Law in Northern California and completed his law degree in 1971. He was employed for many years by TRW and Northrop Grumman as an attorney in California and Virginia and negotiated large government contracts. He had the privilege of traveling throughout the world because of his employment.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and proudly served for many years in the Primary Organization teaching young children. He also served as a youth leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He loved music, played the accordion and had a lovely tenor voice. He enjoyed motor home vacations when his family was young, and later going on cruises with them. 

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Beverlee and their sons. Being a father was one of the greatest joys in his life. 

A funeral service will be held for him at 2 PM on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 605 Maddox Rd, Griffin, Ga, 30224. Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 1 PM. 

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Perpetual Education Fund for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Mel’s service will be Zoomed for those who are unable to attend his farewell service, please contact his wife, Beverlee George.
