Clyde Melvin Mayes

Mr. Clyde Melvin (Jack) Mayes, age 86, of Griffin, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Jack was the son of the late Walter and Ellen Mayes of Attalla, Alabama. He was married 58 years to the late Jo Alice Harbin and a wonderful father to Marsha, Keith, and Heather. His grandchildren, Kylie Jo, Peyton, and Jackson were his greatest joy. Jack served in the U.S. Army and The Natural Guard and was a proud, decorated veteran of the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired from Ford Motor Company in Hapeville, Georgia where he worked as a supervisor. He particularly loved going to his place on Lake Weiss fishing and spending time with family.

He is survived by his children Marsha (David) Hood, Keith Mayes, Heather (Todd) Coates, brother John Walter (Buck) Mayes and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by siblings Ola, Selma, Jonathan, Clarence, Marvin, Howard, Hobart, Harold, and Alvin. Jack Mayes lived life to the fullest and often said: "You can't keep a good man down."

Visitation for Clyde “Jack” Mayes will be Friday, May 10, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 12:30 pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Westwood Gardens, with military honors.
