Deborah Louise Cameron was born January 13, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the first born daughter of the late Robert and Louise Gauthney. Deborah attended Dobbins Technical High School and completed her education at the Lincoln Preparatory School. In 1974 Deborah married Durant Cameron in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1978 Deborah moved to Rhode Island where she began working for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation as a billing specialist until her retirement in 2009. She enjoyed writing poetry and began writing at an early age. She has written over 1000 poems. She enjoyed going to local community centers in Rhode Island where she would be found reading her poetry with her friends. Deborah was very active and well known throughout the community. In the early 1980’s Deborah was a coach for the Pop Warner Pee Wee cheerleaders and in the late 1990’s she was a Girl Scout troop leader.

Deborah passed away peacefully on January 16, 2019 in the comfort of her home. She is preceded in death by her late husband Durant Cameron; parents, Robert and Louise Gauthney; brothers, Robert Gauthney and James Gauthney. She leaves to mourn her two brothers Cornelius Gauthney of Deptfort, NJ and Sherman Gauthney of Philadelphia, PA; one sister Jamillah Bakr of San Diego, CA; son, Bernard Gauthney; daughter in-law Lynn Gauthney of Arlington, MA; daughter, Colette West and son in-law Leighton Leon West of Fayetteville, GA, her daughter, Leandra Lee of Providence, RI; her stepdaughters, Tiffany Cherie Lewis of Richmond, VA, Dominique Cameron and Crystal Eady of Pennsylvania. Deborah was a loving grandmother to Aaliyah West, Leighlah West, Cianna Lewis, Lyric Lewis, and Shaquille Hall; host of nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.

Visitation for Deborah Cameron will be Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be conducted in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury. Interment will be at Camp Memorial Park in Fayetteville, GA.
