Tribute

Douglas Gene McEvers, age 61 of Barnesville, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024. Douglas Gene McEvers-A.K.A Dougie fresh, honey and Daddy has gone home to be with the Lord and many other loved ones before him. Doug was born in Salem, Illinois on January 8, 1963. Doug attended high school in Teutopolas, Illinois and became an honorary Georgia transplant thanks to the United States Army and Army National Guard. Doug had a deep love for his country and felt the need to serve. He enlisted in the Army right after high school. Doug attended Saint Peter the Rock Catholic church. He has worked many different professions including, salesman, plumber, heavy equipment operator, bull rider, cowboy, stock contractor and longest job, daddy. Doug has spent the last 17 ½ years raising two beautiful daughters and a herd of well-bred livestock. Doug has enjoyed a lifetime of friendship and fellowship, bon fires and bulls, soccer and softball, 4-H fairs and band concerts. Doug had his grandmother’s ability to make you believe you were his “favorite” I could never count up- but need to mention Brad Reece, Darren, Chris, John and so many more. Doug never met a stranger and was the most forgiving person I have ever known. He had a strong faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ. More than anything he was a Great Daddy and will be missed dearly by all that knew him. Doug had a love for animals. He could not kill any animal. He used to say, “you want to hunt for fun? Hunt a polar bear, he will hunt you back-at least make the fight fair” We love you, Doug. You will be missed dearly. Doug was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen McEvers.
Doug is survived by his daughters, Emily Ann and Mary “Evie” Evelyn McEvers. Sons (kinda) Jimmy McCard, Clay Taylor and Josh Gross. Sisters, Michelle Sutton, Alita McEvers; brothers, Patrick McEvers (Joanie), Jeremy Daniell (Diana) Geoff McEvers; step brothers, Brian Hardiek, Brad Hardiek (Heidi); father, David McEvers(Shirley ); mother, Pam Daniell; several uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
