Timothy R. Murphy, PhD

Timothy Richard Murphy, age 66 of Griffin passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 at his residence.
 
Tim was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on August 12, 1951. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Dennis Murphy and Frances Juanita Blazier Murphy. He received his BS from Berea College in 1975, his MS and his PhD in 1979 and 1985, respectively, from Clemson University. Dr. Murphy was a Professor Emeritus and Extension Agronomist at the UGA Griffin Campus and retired after 28 years of service.

Dr. Murphy enjoyed spending time with his family, including his UGA family. Tim will be fondly remembered by family and friends for the endless hours of service to his church, First Baptist Griffin, Habitat for Humanity, and his endless support for anyone he met. He will be most missed for his wit, charm, and the ability to make a joke about anything.
 
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite J. Murphy; daughter, Molly Murphy; sisters, Alice Murphy Garrison, Helen Murphy Payton, Jeanie Murphy Hogg; brothers, Michael Murphy, Jim Murphy; and nieces and nephews.
 
A memorial service for Tim Murphy will be on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 106 W. Taylor Street, Griffin.
