Ellen Shirey

Mrs. Ellen Buffington Chambley Shirey, age 88, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Brightmoor Hospice.
 
Mrs. Shirey was born April 23, 1931 in Dawson County, Georgia. She is preceded in death by her parents George Buffington and Alice Grant Buffington; first husband Fletcher Chambley; second husband Jewell “Benny” Shirey; sisters Louise Anderson, Allene Grizzle, Mary Higgins, Grace McLean; step-son Melvin Chambley; step-grandsons Kenny Chambley and Darrell Chambley. She was a retired employee of Anderson’s Cafeteria in Griffin, Georgia. She was also a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
 
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Carroll Abbott; stepdaughter Agnes Smith; stepson James Shirey; sister and brother-in-law Frances and Henry Smith; sister Myrtle Culpepper; brother and sister-in-law Jimmy and Sarah Buffington; grandchildren Ryan Moore, Clinton Abbott, Weston Abbott, Robert Chambley, Ricky Chambley, Denise Chambley, Heavalan Moody, James Shirey, Jr.; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
 
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A service will follow in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home.
Following the grave side service, a family dinner will be served at Conner-Westbury.
