Emma Carolyn McCarty Floyd, age 91 of Hampton passed away at Brightmoor Assisted Living of Griffin, Georgia on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. Emma was born in 1928 in Macon County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Jasper McCarty, Sr. and Odessa Gilmore McCarty. She is also preceded by her husband Marvin E. Floyd; sisters Eva McInvale, Frances Goodman and Eloise Baugh; brothers Joe McCarty and Jasper McCarty, Jr. She graduated high school at grade 11 from Ideal High School of Macon County, Georgia in 1946. Emma worked in the hosiery factory at Dundee Mill in Griffin, Southern States in Hampton and The Georgia Department of Revenue in Atlanta. However, her most important role was a mother, homemaker and a farmer’s wife.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sunny Side. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, flowers, gardening, fishing, and singing in the church choir. Her favorite hobby was spending time with her grandbabies and great-grandbabies.
Mrs. Floyd is survived by her daughters Virginia Floyd Head and husband Larry, Linda Floyd Muehlberger and husband Paul, Charlotte Floyd Miller, Kay Floyd Citron and husband Malcolm; grandchildren, Craig Head, Lisa Head McDonald and husband Andrew, Benjamin Stinchcomb and wife Melissa, Valerie Stinchcomb, Geoffrey Muehlberger and wife Cindy, Stacey Millarker, Nicholas Miller and wife Lisa, Alexander Vontillius and wife Autumn, Emily Vontillius, Jennifer Vontillius, Harrison Citron, Nick Citron and wife Angela; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews..
A visitation will be Friday, January 17, 2020 from 5-7 pm at the Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Visitation will also be Saturday at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Sunny Side followed by a funeral service in the sanctuary at 2 pm. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Ms. Emma’s honor to the First Baptist Church of Sunny Side or Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc. LBDA.org
