Mrs. Frances Lewis Allen, age 86 of Griffin, passed away on August 4, 2019 at The Hope House.
Mrs. Allen was born in Griffin, Georgia on September 28, 1932. Mrs. Allen is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Hugh D. Allen; parents, L.C. and Fannie Maudie Lewis; parents-in-law, L.H. and Pearl Allen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernest Lewis, William and Catherine Lewis, Marvin and Martha Frances Lewis, Earl and Joyce Lewis, Ed and Diddy Lewis, Bobby and Annie Ruth Lewis, Hillard and Nettie Mae Allen, George and Sally Phillips, Mary and Bennie Allen, Roy Allen, Jack Allen, Edd Moncrief, David Allen, Frank Allen, Maybelle and Emmett Helms, Ingram Avery Allen, Herbert Melvin Allen. Mrs. Allen worked with her husband in their business, Allen Plumbing-Heating and Air Conditioning, before her retirement. After their retirement, they worked for the Georgia Baptist Campers on Mission for a number of years, travelling to different churches in various states. Mr. Allen would work with plumbing while Mrs. Allen helped with Vacation Bible School, sewing and mending of clothes and writing letters. She also volunteered at the hospital as a “Pink Lady”. She and Mr. Allen had only one child but they helped with raising many more. She was an active member of DeVotie Baptist Church until her health declined.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Gene Kent; grandsons, James D. Kent, Alec Tate; grand-pets, Daisy and Ella; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Moncrief, Alice Corley, Diane Allen, JoAnne Allen; special nieces and nephews, among them Terry Lewis, Kenny Lewis, Ruth Evans and Barbara Bethune.
A visitation will be Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury. Pastor Sean Nix will officiate. Interment will follow in Griffin Memorial Gardens.
