Gail (Key) Cross, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. Services celebrating her life will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021, at 1:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory with interment immediately following at Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin, GA. The visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the services. Richard Jones will be officiating the services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Second Memorial Baptist Church, 1845 Kings Chapel Rd., Perry, GA 31069.
Ms. Cross was born and raised on the Rushton Cotton Mill Village in Griffin, GA. She graduated from Griffin High School in 1956 and Marsh Business College in 1958. Ms. Cross is the daughter of the late John Quincy Key, Sr., and Nellie Mae (Stewart) Key. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: John Quincy Key, Jr., and Edward Key; sister-in-law: Sara Key; sister: Louise (Key) Hester; brother-in-law: H.K. Hester and a daughter-in-law, Maria (Law) Cross.
Ms. Cross retired from Robins Air Force Base and was an active member of Second Memorial Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, lawn, and yard work. Ms. Cross also enjoyed researching her family tree and volunteering her time serving at Second Memorial Baptist Church. She loved her family dearly and especially loved being a “Granny”.
Left to cherish her memory is her sister Faye Key Scott (Charles) and her sons: Johnny G. Cross, Hugh E. Cross (Tammy) and Neil A. Cross; granddaughters: Jennifer Hardman, Sarah E. Cross, Rebekah C. Roth (and husband Jeff) and Anna R. Cross; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.
