Mrs. Gladys Rucker
December 14, 1923 – October 10, 2020
“May the Work I’ve Done Speak for Me”
The beginning of a beautiful life that lasted ninety-six years, nine months and twenty-six days. Mrs. Gladys O’Neal Rucker began her life journey as the daughter of Mr. Robert K. O’Neal and Mrs. Emma Josie O’Neal in Zebulon, Georgia, Pike County on December 14, 1923. She attended elementary and middle School in Meansville, Georgia. Gladys moved to Griffin, Georgia in the early forties where she met and married Emmett Rucker, Sr. They were the parents of two wonderful sons, John Thomas Rucker; Detriot, Michigan and Emmett Rucker, Jr.; Griffin, Georgia. Preceding her in death are both parents; husband Emmett Rucker, Sr.; Daughter-in-laws Vera Reid Rucker; and Sandra Leeks.
Gladys joined Fullers Chapel United Methodist Church, Zebulon, Georgia at an early age and connected with Heck Chapel United Methodist Church now Faith United Methodist Church, Griffin, Georgia where she served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board, President of Southside Club, Eastside Club and SPPRC Committee for many years. She was also an active member of the Spalding County Senior Citizen Walking and Traveling Club. Gladys spent many years as a domestic worker and later gained employment at Dundee Mills Plant #5 until retiring after twenty-five years of service.
She loved cooking, baking cakes that she shared with family and friends, nurturing plants, watching the Atlanta Braves and game shows on TV.
Gladys leaves to cherish her memory her sons, ten grandchildren, and a host of grand and great grandchildren, special nieces, Mrs. Elsie Owens, Mrs. Emma Jean and Rufus Taylor, Jr. and many other nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Gladys Rucker will be on Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oak Hill cemetery.
