Glenda Dianne Duffey, age 71 of Griffin, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Brightmoor Nursing Home after a brief battle with cancer.
Glenda was born in Griffin on August 15, 1946. Glenda is preceded in death by her parents, Fred P. Duffey Sr. and Margaret Sanders Duffey; brother, Fred P. Duffey Jr.; niece, Missy Duffey. She was a member of the Griffin High School Class of 1964, attended West Georgia College in Carrollton and earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. She was a devoted Teacher in Roopville, Ga, then at Griffin High and later Spalding High (where she was named teacher of the year) until her retirement in 2003. She loved U.S. History, writing, music and the arts, traveling the world and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her sister, Sandra D. Duffey; sister-in-law, Diane Duffey; uncle and aunt, Norman and Maggie Duffey; nephews, Patrick Duffey and wife April, Michael Duffey; Goddaughter and best friend, Lisa Farmer. She had a special place in her heart for her two great-nieces, Mary Margaret and Juliana Duffey and her grandson, Eason Farmer, who lovingly called her “Honey”. She leaves behind many cherished cousins.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Brightmoor Nursing Home for their care giving and concern. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Glenda.
A visitation for Glenda Duffey will be Sunday, May 13, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Monday, May 14, 2018 from noon until 1:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Monday, May 14, 2018 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
