James “Jim” Alton Blankenship, age 78 of Griffin Georgia passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Brightmoor Hospice after a long battle with cancer and pulmonary fibrosis. He passed away on his 60th wedding anniversary. His loving wife, Linda cared for him at home giving him the best of care until May 18, 2020 when his health severely deteriorated.
Jim was born June 30, 1941 in Etowah, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Edith Blankenship; brother, Freddie Blankenship. He is survived by his wife, Linda, daughter Tammy (Kenny) Russell, daughter Cathy (Greg) Petty, special grandson Adam (Sabrina) Caldwell, Blake Russell, Ben Russell, Shane (Brittany) Petty; great-grandchildren Ava Caldwell, Jack Caldwell, Shadoe Thompson, Layla Petty, and Londyn Petty. Jim is also survived by his siblings, Joyce Casteel, Richard Blankenship, Carroll Blankenship, Eddie Blankenship and Patti Smith all of Tennessee.
Jim retired from General Motors in Lakewood, Georgia and returned to work at Perdue’s Paint and Body shop before permanently retiring. Jim was a member of Westside Church of Christ in Griffin, Georgia. He was a Christian who loved his father in Heaven. A graveside service will be on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Westminster Memorial gardens, Peachtree City with Jim Lane and Kenny Russell officiating the service.
