Mr. James Roy Ledbetter, 95, was finally reunited with the love of his life on November 14, 2021. His beloved wife of 67 years, Nadine (Morgan) Ledbetter, died in 2015, and Roy spent the last six years talking about how much he was looking forward to seeing her in heaven.
Roy loved traveling. He and Nadine traveled to all 50 states, Canada and Mexico, with grandson or granddaughters. After the death of his wife, his travels were more local. It was either country drives (rambling as he called it) with his brother, Raymond or lunch dates all over the surrounding counties with his niece, Sandi Clark and her husband Todd. His final journey was most joyous for him, the meeting of Jesus and the reunion with his bride.
Mr. Ledbetter was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran, proudly serving his country during the Southern Philippines Liberation, where he received the Bronze Star and Philippines Liberation Ribbon. Till the very end, Mr. Ledbetter was a true patriot who loved his country and freedom.
To truly love your family and country, it begins with loving our one and only true God and his son, Jesus Christ. For Roy this true love began in 1953 when he confessed his faith and since then he was a longtime faithful member of Kincaid United Methodist Church.
He is survived by son, Bruce Ledbetter; grandson, Bryan, and his wife Melissa Ledbetter; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Young and Alyssa Ledbetter; great-great grandchildren, Brantley Young and Weston Young. In addition to his loving family, his life was filled with several longtime guardian angels and invaluable friends, David and Beverly Hallmark, neighbors who treated him as their own granddad, Ricky and Daye Reeves who were close comfort for many years.
In addition to his parents, Julius and Louise Tweedle Ledbetter, he is preceded in death by four sisters, Hortense “Tance” Floyd, Estelle Lemmings, Gussie Norton and Dorothy “Nell” Williams; two brothers, Randolph Preston Ledbetter and Raymond Ledbetter.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A service will follow at 2:00 pm in the chapel. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Reverend Sandra Fendley will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Roy’s honor to Impact Ministries/Food Pantry, 115 W Solomon St, Griffin, GA 30223.
