James Morton

Mr. James Norman Morton, Jr., age 79 of Griffin, passed away on July 12, 2019.

Mr. Morton was born on May 31, 1940. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Norman Morton, Sr., and Helen Morton; his brother, Ralph Morton. Mr. Morton was an entrepreneur and an over the road Truck Driver until his retirement. He was a member of the Griffin Moose Lodge, since 1974. He enjoyed spending time in Panama City Beach, Florida. He especially loved watching dolphins, boating and deep sea fishing. At home, he enjoyed his time with family, riding his gator, fishing and shooting turtles. He also loved going to yard sales. As quoted by a longtime good friend, “he was a man’s man & an extremist. He lived exactly how he wanted to.”

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jessie Cox Morton; his sons, Ronnie Morton, Donnie Morton and wife Mandy; grandchildren, Tyler Morton, Jennifer Morton, Chris Gable, Sara Gable and Taylor Kirkland; Big Pa-Pa to “Gracie”; brother, Steve Morton and wife Bonnie; sisters, Carolyn Duvall and husband Rod, Rose Hutcheson and husband Carl; sister-in-law, Carolyn Morton; several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, October 26, 2019 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the home of Donnie and Mandy. It will be officiated by Matthew Rosenthal; special music will be played by Andrew Stewart.
