James E. Owens

September 2, 1953 ~ August 7, 2017 (age 63) 63 Years Old
Mr. James Earl “Bay” Owens, age 63 of Griffin Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 7th, 2017 after a courageous nine month battle with cancer. At the time when he heard the Lord whisper his name, he was surrounded by loving family and friends at Eternal Hope Hospice in Griffin, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and John “J.W.” Sorrells, of Ellenwood, Georgia.

Bay was a devoted husband and loving father. He was happiest when spending time with his family, camping, fishing, and celebrating life’s many milestones. In his early years, “Mr. Bay” or “Brother Bay” as he was fondly known, hit the road and lived out his passion for music as a stage tech for many well- known bands. Soon thereafter, he was blessed with marrying Cindy and started his career in construction. At the time Bay was diagnosed in 2016, he was a superintendent with SoCo Contracting Company, Inc. in Atlanta. In the months that followed, Bay rededicated his life to Christ and took great pleasure in making memories and sharing many laughs and loves with those closest to his heart. Because of them, he left this world knowing the importance of living everyday as if it’s your last. His prayers, which he spoke softly aloud, were filled with gratefulness for the life he’d been given. He prayed that no harm or illness would ever touch those he loved. And most humbly, he prayed for peacefulness and strength through God.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Cindy; daughters and spouses, Laurie and Jimmy Jennings of Ormond Beach, Florida, Michelle Loyd and Stephen Brown of Griffin, Georgia; grandchildren, Donavon Owens, Leigh-Ann Hubbard, Samantha Jennings, Jacob Jennings, Jonothan Owens, and Blake Byrd; brother, Richard Owens and Pam Mathieson of Rex, GA; special cousin Donald and Susie Dunlavey of Jonesboro, Georgia; in-laws who loved him as their own son, Raymond and Joyce Ledbetter of Griffin, Georgia; sister-in-law Sandra and his “mi hijo” Dallas Pendley, Kerri Stanley, John Lamb, “monkey knot” Andrea Blair Gardner, Anthony Blair, Taylor, Kenzie, special friend Franklin Henry, Sr. and many other loving family members.

A Celebration of his life will be held at iMPACT Christian Ministries in Griffin, Georgia on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions, in his memory, be made to iMPACT Christian Ministries, 115 West Solomon Street, Griffin, Georgia 30223.
