James Gerald Whalen

James Gerald Whalen, age 75, of Griffin, GA, passed away on July 11, 2022 at his residence.

Jim was born in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania on July 27, 1946, to the late Edward and Anne Copley Whalen. His brothers, Tommy Whalen, Eddie Whalen, and sister, Mary Ellen Fronczak, also preceded him in death. Jim proudly served in the United States Army where he completed two tours in Vietnam. He retired from Perry Point VA Hospital in Maryland after working there for over 30 years as an HVAC technician. Jim enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a big fan of Dale Jarrett. He was of the Catholic faith, and was a loving husband, father, and “Pop-Pop”.

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Bonnie Gifford Whalen; daughters, Kim Murdoch and Karen Cayton; grandson, Owen Quinn Cayton; and brother, Joseph Whalen.

A memorial service will be on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Sunnyside United Methodist Church, 5084 Old Atlanta Rd, Sunny Side, Georgia, 30284, officiated by Reverend JoAn Kinrade.
