Jo Anne Wright Hammond, a long-time resident of Meansville, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019 in hospice. Jo Anne was born on a farm in Clayton County, Georgia in 1940, the daughter of John Henry Wright and Grace Brand Wright. She graduated from Jonesboro High School, Class of 1958. She lived in Griffin, Georgia for over 30 years while
working at the Atlanta Army Depot for 13 years and in supply management at the Georgia National Guard headquarters in Atlanta for 17 years until retirement. She attended the Beulah Baptist Church in Molena.  Jo Anne loved playing golf, hiking, traveling, puzzles, knitting and sewing and, above all, her grandkids and great-grandkids who knew her as "Grandma Jo." She had a rare way with babies and there is hardly a picture of her without one on her lap.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Stanley W. Hammond. She is also survived by her three daughters and their husbands: Sheena and Kenny Harwell of Concord, Georgia; Natalie and Chip Davis of Zebulon, Georgia; Teri Hammond-Lee and Mike Lee of Decatur, Georgia; her son and his wife, Brian and Tara Hammond of Williamson, Georgia; her sister Ina and her husband Richard Gates of Pensacola, Florida; her grandchildren, Chelcie (Ronald) Rodriguez of Greenville, South Carolina and Stacy (Dustin) Baldwin, Carla Harwell, Amy (Andrew) Sturniolo, Chad Davis, Owen and Griffin Hammond-Lee, Brittany Stephens, Benjamin and Nathan Hammond all of Georgia; five great-grandchildren: Kole and Elijah Baldwin and Natasha Gordy of Zebulon, Georgia and Nora and Milo Rodriguez of Greenville, South Carolina; , plus many nieces and nephews.
 
Please join us in celebrating her life on Friday, December 6, 2019. Visitation will be at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home in Griffin, Georgia at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm. The family wishes to thank the staff of Eternal Hope Hospice for their care in making her final days peaceful ones. Memorial contributions may be made to the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University to further research on glioblastoma (Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, Development Office, 1762 Clifton Road, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30322).
