John Thomas Baker, III died November 30, 2020, at the age of 91. He was born in Zebulon, Georgia on December 18, 1928. Mr. Baker was the oldest son of John and Elizabeth Baker. Mr. Baker graduated from Pike County High School, and then attended Georgia Southwestern College. Mr. Baker was a member of Griffin First United Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible Class.
Mr. Baker met his wife, Kathryn King Baker when she was a teller at First National Bank. He was employed for many years as a salesman at Goode-Nichols Furniture Company in Griffin. John was a devoted husband to Kathryn for 67 years, before she passed away in 2015. Mr. Baker loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed golf and his golfing buddies, his friends at The Woods Assisted Living, and the Georgia Bulldogs.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn, his parents, his stepfather Mitchell White, and his brother Samuel Baker of New York City. He is survived by three children, John Baker, Jr. and his wife Trellis of Forsyth, Patricia Flynt and her husband Crisp of Griffin, and Libby Todd and her husband Richard of Griffin. Five grandchildren, Jill Collier and her husband Richard of Marietta, Russell Jones and his wife Jenna of Zebulon, Hayley Mosely and her husband Adam of Griffin, Megan Barnhart and her husband Dillon of Marietta, and Kate Granitz and her husband Ben of Forsyth. Eleven Great-grandchildren, Wesley, Shayley, and Audyn Jones, Mary Leigh Collier, Aaron, Harper, and Mila Mosely, Blakely, Baylor, and Bowen Barnhart, and Trellis Granitz.
A private family service will be held. There will be no visitation due to Covid restrictions.
