Joyce Gilbert Oglesby

Joyce Gilbert Oglesby, age 83, of Orchard Hill, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 24th at Wellstar Spalding Regional Hospital in Griffin, Georgia.

Joyce was born April 3, 1937 to Perry and Mildred (Bishop) Gilbert in Woodbury, Georgia. She was a 1955 graduate of Meriwether High School in Woodbury, Georgia. She was married to Harvey Oglesby on July 7, 1962 for 58 years. She was a resident of Orchard Hill for the past 46 years and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Griffin and later a member of Orchard Hill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and served on various committees throughout the years. She worked at HV Kell Company for 5 years and later was a secretary at Orrs Elementary School in Griffin, Georgia for 24 years and retired in 1998.
She loved spending time with her family and her friends. She enjoyed cooking and trying out new recipes. She always was willing to help someone with a hot meal and a kind word.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her infant sister, Juanita. She is survived by her husband, Harvey Oglesby, son and daughter in law, Kevin and Debbie Oglesby, daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Kevin Lofton, and grandchildren, Sean Lofton, Matt Lofton, Rachel Oglesby, and Jordan Oglesby. She is also survived by her twin sister, Joan Plummer, brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Mary Jane Gilbert, brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Charlotte Gilbert, sister, Charlotte Provenson, sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Morris Powers, and aunts Jeanette Byrd and Geneva Alverson. She also leaves behind many cousins who were like brothers and sisters to her and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life for Joyce Oglesby will be Sunday, May 2, 2021 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home.
