Joyce Mueller Jones, 96, of Griffin, passed away May 5, 2019. She was born in Lakewood, Ohio, to the late Carl Mueller and Hazel Bailey Mueller. In 1938, her family moved to Brandon, Florida, where she attended Brandon High School. She was president of the National Honor Society, earning a scholarship to attend the University of Tampa where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Sorority. While she was attending the University, she met Edward Jones who was stationed at MacDill Field (now MacDill Air Force Base) in Tampa. The two married in 1943 in Orlando, Florida, and were married 69 years at the time of his death in 2012.
After World War II, the Joneses moved to Griffin, Georgia. Joyce was employed by United Cotton Goods for 35 years. During her tenure, she served as Secretary/Treasurer and was a member of the Board of Directors. An active citizen of Griffin community, Mrs. Jones was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanianne Club, the Model-A Club, and the First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Jones is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward T. Jones; her sister, Nancy Mook; and her brother, William A. Mueller, Sr. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Welch (Ronnie); daughters, Carla Jones Hull and Judy Jones White (Phillip); grandchildren, Chris Hull (Tiffany), Amy Watson (Brian), Brandon White (Elizabeth), Matthew White (Melissa); great grandchildren, Lawson and Landry Hull, Jack and Bennett White, and Hammond and Hayes White; along with several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. A funeral service will be at First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 2:00pm. Reverend Drew Elling will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens.
