Mrs. Julie McLean Smith, age 43 of Guyton, Georgia, formerly of Griffin, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017 in Griffin, Georgia.

Julie was born August 12, 1973 in Griffin, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ben and Betty Cain, Charlie and Lucille McLean; stepfather Harold Jones; cousin, Cain Brown; uncles, Charles McLean and Mickey McLean; aunt, Ann McLean.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Griffin. Julie was a 1991 graduate of Griffin High School, a 1996 graduate of Mercer University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education; in 1998 she graduated from the University of West Georgia with her Master’s Degree. She continued to advance her education and received her ED.S, in Early Childhood Education in 2001, and in 2013 graduated from Valdosta State University with Education Leadership. She started her teaching career at Cowan Road Elementary School in Griffin; then moved to the Savannah area and continued her teaching career at Springfield Elementary and Effingham County High School.

Survivors include her husband, Jonathan Smith; her mother, Betsy Cain Jones; her father and step mother, Dan and Jan McLean; brothers, Jeff McLean and wife, Jamie; Mike Jones and wife, Amy; sister, Amy Miller Coe and husband, Lee; nieces, Madison Jones, Janie Jones, Amanda McLean, Avery McLean, Bethany Flournoy, Cason Smith, Madelyn Smith; nephews, Jax Coe, Logan Coe, Cooper Smith; aunts and uncles, Bonnie and Steve Brown, Vivian and Lance Pinson, Joyce Hickman, James and Mary McLean, Lane McLean, Diane and Dave Smith, Barbara Coleman; cousin, Benjie Brown and wife Kim; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Virgil and Susan Cobb; brothers-in-law and sisters- in-law, Chuck and Megan Smith, Garrett Cobb, Matthew Cobb, and Victoria Cobb; her beloved pets, Bailey and Georgia.

A visitation for Mrs. Julie M. Smith will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 5 pm until 8 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church, 106 W. Taylor Street, Griffin, Georgia. Dr. Bill Hardee will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
