Ms. Katherine Scroggs Stewart passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 in Fayetteville, Georgia. She was born in Griffin, Georgia to Perry Andrew and Mary Fances Petree Scroggs on January 19, 1942. Preceding her in death are her parents and Thomas G. Stewart, Sr.
After graduating Griffin-Spalding County High School in May 1960, she immediately started her career by accepting a position with The Department of Public Safety of the State of Georgia in Atlanta. After leaving employment with the State of Georgia, for a position with the Deparment of the Army, she retired as the Chief of Logistics Division, US Army 2d Recruiting Brigade, Ft Gillem, GA where she worked the last 23 years of her 30 year Federal Employment.
Katherine enjoyed Genealogy and spent many hours researching in libraries, the Internet and cemeteries. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, and watching the many species of bird coming to her yard.
Her family was the light of her world and felt time spent with them was her greatest pleasure on earth.
Left to cherish her memory are sons Thomas G. Stewart, Jr. and wife Suzanne Michelle, of Fayetteville, GA, Joel Andrew Stewart, Sr. and wife Anna Louise of Gainesville, GA and daughter Sarah Elizabeth Stewart of Woodbury Ga, four grandsons, Christopher Thomas Stewart, Ryan Daniel Stewart, Joel Andrew Stewart, Jr. and Christian Stewart Hayes, two granddaughters Miranda Katherine Hayes and Merritt Emily Stewart, sister Sarah S. Freeman and husband William of Griffin, Georgia, two nieces and three great-nieces, two great-nephews, one g-great nephew and a number of cousins.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Samaritan’s Purse.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 31, 2020 at 12:00 pm at Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin, Georgia.
