Lamar Smith age 93 of South McDonough Rd. Griffin, died January 29th, from breathing complications following a fall at home resulting in a fractured femur that led to his being bedridden.

Lamar was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Buntyn Smith and his dad, Luther Smith; brothers, Danny Smith, Larry Smith, Lavern Smith, Kenneth Jones and Bill Smith.

Lamar is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Jeanette Green Smith and his sister, Edna Jones; sisters-in-law, Anne Smith and Jean Smith, along with 3 sons, 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many cherished extended family members.

Lamar loved his times spent at Lake Sinclair, as well as raising cows. He retired from his first career as a truck driver, then from his second one, the family business, S&S Lawnmower Service.

He loved participating in and hosting family get togethers and reunions. He was a talented mechanic, a fascination tinkerer, enjoyed making muscadine wines and loved the family Labrador retrievers. He enjoyed his years as a Boy Scout Leader with Troop 10, enjoyed bluegrass music, and cherished opportunities to instruct kid, especially in things mechanical. He loved his “cat heads” (his wife’s homemade biscuits). He is, and will be, greatly missed.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 1, 2023 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Thursday, February 2, 2023 2:00 pm at New Hope Baptist Church.
