April 2, 1926 ~ June 15, 2021 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Tribute

Celebrating the life of Mr. Leon Campbell Martin, born in Charlotte Amalie St.Thomas Virgin Islands to Ellita Cartier Martin and Arnold Campbell Martin on April 2,1926 and who departed June 15, 2021. Leon Martin lived a life that was filled with a devoted loving family: his late wife, Muriel Bascom Martin and two children: devoted son, Richard Campbell Martin and wife Cynthia Turner, and the daughter he adored, Lisa Martin Love and her husband Percy Love. Mr. Martin was proud grandfather to Richard Campbell Martin, Jr.

Mr. Martin graduated high school and went into the United States Army during the Korean War. He met and married the love of his life, Muriel, when he moved to New York. He enjoyed his work as a subway motorman in the New York City Transit Authority and told many amusing stories of his workdays.

When he and his wife retired to Florida, they spent many years traveling to place like Paris, Amsterdam, Barbados, cities in Canada, Jamaica and cruising Alaska. An avid tennis player who played in ALTA, he was happy to have been able to attend the French Open.

He and his wife moved to Griffin, GA the early 2000s to be near their children and grandson.

Mr. Martin was a talented photographer who documented the family travels and who displayed many of his more artistic pieces throughout his home.

He was a musician who played the violin, the piano and the organ, often playing for the church when he was younger.

As an avid chess player, he continued to play virtual opponents from around the world up until a few months before his death.

A man who truly never met a stranger and affectionately called “Denzel” or “Mr. Mayor,” Leon Campbell Martin’s ready smile that spread to warm, welcoming eyes will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins and special friends, near and far.

The family will be having a Celebration of Life for Mr. Martin Sunday, June 20, 2021 at 2:00 pm at 124 Spider Lily Ct, Griffin, Georgia 30223.
