Martha Sue Markel

Martha Sue “Sue Baby” Markel age 74, of Griffin passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at her residence.

Sue Baby was born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 11, 1946. She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Chatham and Rebecca Sue Wright Chatham. She was an accomplished artist and the former president of Chatham Brother’s Construction.

She is survived by son, Todd Phipps and girlfriend, Whitney Bates; daughter, Christian and Larry Whitman; daughter-in-law, Tara Phipps; brothers, Les Chatham, Walt and Sharon Chatham, Robert and Darlene Chatham; grandchildren, Douglas and Emily Ward, McKenzie and Ruben Valdez, Laurie and Blake Anderson, Krystle and Ben Hollingsworth; step step-children, Hallie Kimsey, Sharon Phipps; great grandchildren, Brylee, Harper, James, Kaydence, and Maggie; uncle, E.C. and Ethel Chatham; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, College Park.
