Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Painter Buffington, age 91, of Griffin formerly of Douglasville passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Brightmoor Nursing Center.
Mrs. Buffington was born in Colquitt, Georgia on January 30, 1927. She is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin B. and Pearl Hand Joiner, her husbands, George William Painter and Lamar Buffington; grandson Ernie. She enjoyed spending time with the loves of her life- her kids, grandkids and all her other family. Mrs. Buffington enjoyed word search puzzles, Spinner Dominoes, Bingo and any of the other actives at Brightmoor where she had made her home for the last several years. The family would like to say a special thank you to all the Staff at Brightmoor for making her stay very enjoyable: she considered them part of her extended family.
She is survived by her children, Elizabeth and husband Jerry McCullough of Griffin, Christine Pittman of Douglasville, Nancy and husband Scott Lyle of Brooks, George William Jr. and wife Mickey Painter of Ellijay, David Allen Painter of Douglasville, Michael Wayne Painter of Carrollton, Chris and Patti Atkins. Her grandchildren are Tracy and husband Frank Cassidy, Toni and husband Kevin Studdard, Angela and husband Tony Taylor, Alex Lyle, Ashley Lyle, Jeremy Painter and wife Megan, Andrew Painter and wife Bobbi, Dawson Painter. Her great grandchildren are Jena Bruce, Jaret Bruce, Alexis Cassidy, Austin Cassidy, Dylan Studdard, Sara Studdard, Mary Elizabeth Taylor, Julia Taylor, Anthony Taylor, Avery Taylor, Hudson Painter, Hannah Painter; sister-in-law, Latrella Joiner; several nieces, nephews and cousin.
A visitation for Mary Elizabeth Painter Buffington will be Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Monday, April 16, 2018 at Turniptown Baptist Church, 3263 Turniptown Rd, Ellijay, GA 30536 at 1:00pm. Burial will follow Turniptown Cemetery in Ellijay.
