Mrs. Mary Magdlene Gilbert, age 79 of Griffin, Georgia passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019 peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Mary was born to the late Joseph Hoke and Lura Belle Coggins in Madison, Georgia on May 15, 1940. She was a member of Family Worship Center East Griffin. Mary attended Pike County High School and continued on to work at the Bleachery and Southeastern Textiles until her retirement.
Mary was well known as a devout Christian who put the love of God and his service above all, except family. Her devotion and love of family truly defined her. She was often found cooking for others in need, whether in her kitchen at home, or her beloved campsite in Cleveland, GA. She was known for her delicious, homemade cakes and candies. She has been called daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Of all these titles, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother are the ones that made her shine.
She is preceded in death by son, Randy Gilbert; sister, Imogene Nixon and husband Sam; 2 brothers, Travis Coggins and wife Rose, Donald Ray Coggins.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Ki Gilbert; sons, Kelly Gilbert and Joey Gilbert; special daughter, Susan Garner; 4 grandchildren, Kristen Bartone and husband, Rob, Dalton Gilbert, Austin Gilbert, Dylan Gilbert; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Benjamin Coggins and late wife Tula, Verlon Coggins and wife, Nancy, Walter Coggins and wife Wanda; sister, Betty Scott and late husband Wilbur; sister-in-law, Kay Coggins and husband Donald Ray Coggins; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Billy Anderson and Reverend Richard Kitchens will officiate.
