Millard Terrell English

Millard “Terrell” English, age 92 of Griffin, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

Terrell was born in Lamar County, the fourth child of five, on March 26, 1931 to Evans English and Mabel Thornton English. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Merie Turner English; siblings, Mattie Mae (R.L.) Shavers, Doris (Hamil) Goen, Morris English, Martha (Jack) Wall. He is also predeceased by in-laws, Thomas W. (Addie Mae) Turner, James (Vivian) Reeves, James (Charlotte) Turner, Chafin (Claudette) Smith; Jerry (Jean) Turner, Peggy Turner and son-in-law, Ronald W. Smith.

Terrell, also known as Gramps, wore many different hats in his lifetime. He delivered milk with Wells Dairies, drove a Coca-Cola truck, was an agent with Life of Virginia Insurance Company and delivered one thousand copies of the Griffin Daily News on a paper route. He raised chickens, cows, and goats and was a beekeeper for years. He had a green thumb and grew a huge vegetable garden every year and sold honey, vegetables, preserves as well as thousands of flowers he had rooted, at the local farmers market. Terrell loved woodworking and over the years, he made and gave away hundreds of bluebird houses. He loved traveling with family and friends in his motorhome but his favorite time was the evening, when he would spend at least two hours reading and studying his Bible.

Survivors include children, Raymond (Deborah) English, Linda English Smith; 3 granddaughters, Kelley Lynch, Amy (Jay) Cheeves, Melinda (Tim) Allbritton; six great-grandchildren, Ryan (Anna), Treston, Austin, Kamron, Blaine and Levy; two great-great grandchildren, Lula June and Marlowe; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation will be Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Friday, November 17, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Pastor Gene Luke and Reverend Watson Jones will officiate; Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery (Old Section).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in memory of Terrell.
