Mrs. Portia Verdell Hodo, age 93 of Griffin, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019.
Mrs. Hodo was born on February 13, 1926 in Griffin, Georgia. She is preceded in death by her father and her mother, Inez Pruden Nelms; her husband, Jimmie Hodo; daughter, Portia Louise Hodo Mann. Mrs. Hodo was a graduate of the Grady School of Nursing and was a Registered Nurse at Spalding Regional Hospital. She also received a Certificate of Pharmacology from the University of Georgia. She was a member of Eighth Street Baptist Church of Griffin, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Mother Board, Health Ministry, and City-Wide Mission.
Survivors include her children, Marcia Jordan, Oscar W. and Mary Jordan, Jimmy M. and Pearla Hodo, Ivan and Stephanie Hodo; step-son, Oscar Robert and Myrtis Jordan; son-in-law, Melvin Mann; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Ball and Lucinda Hodo, several nieces and nephews and a host of Godchildren.
A visitation for Mrs. Portia Hodo will be Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Friday, March 22, 2019 at 11:00 am at Eighth Street Baptist Church, 408 Palace St., Griffin, Georgia. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
