Mrs. Rebecca Gordon Newton age 101, of Locust Grove passed away, Sunday, November 15, 2020, at Brightmoor Hospice.
Mrs. Newton was born in Butts County, Georgia on May 24, 1919. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Frances Gordon; husband, Howard Newton; children, Irene(Edward) Murray, Peggy (Robert) Blackmon, Virginia T. (Rick) Richardson, Betty White, Eugene (Mildred) Newton, Jimmy Newton; daughter-in-law, Barbara Newton; son-in-law, Steve Williams. She was a lifelong member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, Locust Grove, where was currently the oldest member and served on the Mother Board. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother of 15 children, and raised two grandchildren as her own, and grandmother and great great-grandmother to many others.
She is survived by children, James Howard (Deborah)Newton, Otis Larry (Linda) Newton, Barbie (Billy) Sims, Darrell Newton, Brenda (Richard) Allen, Shirley (Vinson) Campbell, Marvin (Mary) Newton, Kenny Newton, Kelvin (Sandra) Newton, Sylvia Williams, George White; daughter-in-law, Sandra Newton; son-in-law, George White; special nieces, Doris (Roger) Lasiter, Jacki; caregiver, Monique Brown; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special Thanks to Concordia Nursing Home, Fayetteville and Brightmoor Hospice, Griffin for the loving care and support they showed to Mrs. Newton during her illness and passing.
A visitation will be Friday, November 20, 2020, at 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Saturday, November 21, 2020, at 1:00 pm at Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Locust Grove. Mrs. Newton will lie in state at Shoal Creek Baptist Church from noon until the hour of service for public viewing.
