Mr. Richard Varner Payne, age 70 of Griffin passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Payne was born in Henry County, Georgia on October 15, 1947. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Payne and Eunice Smith Payne; sister and brother in law Vickey and Bill Mask; father and mother in law Paul and Ruth Rhodes. He retired from University of Georgia, Griffin Campus as a field technician. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Payne; children Sylvia Jones and Carol Jones; grandchildren and their spouses T. J. and Elizabeth Jones, Devin and Destiny Stevens, great-granddaughter Lillienne Rose Jones.
A visitation for Richard Varner Payne will be on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 2 pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Chaplain Winfred Dixson will officiate. Interment will follow at the First Baptist Church Cemetery of Sunny Side.
