Ricky Thomas Toland

November 8, 1949 ~ February 14, 2024 (age 74) 74 Years Old

On February 14, 2024, Ricky Thomas Toland passed away in Pike County, Georgia, surrounded by the love of his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, caring brother, doting grandfather, and a dear friend to many. He was born in Griffin, Georgia on November 8, 1949.

Rick was loved and cherished by so many. He had a huge heart, deeply loved his family, was a hard-working provider, a protector, the “strong one” in tough situations, and continually put others ahead of himself. He did this even until the end, comforting others saying, “I want you all to know that I’m going to be alright.” His sense of humor would light up a room, and seeing those he loved always put a huge smile on his face.

The only thing that came close to rivaling the love he had for his family was his love of the outdoors and Tennessee football. Rick was an avid hunter, and not many weekends would pass without a trip to the deer club where one could say there was friendship, laughter, and camaraderie with a touch of hunting on the side. He dearly loved a good campfire with a circle of friends and even more so if the Big Orange was playing on a cool Fall night. He taught his love of the outdoors, whether deer, duck, or turkey hunting, or fishing, to his children and grandchildren. His heart was as big as his smile.

Rick balanced his rough, “flannel man” outdoorsman mystique with a domestic side. He was an excellent cook and loved hospitality, hosting Thanksgiving and other events throughout the year, and spreading joy with his knack for storytelling coupled with his infectious laugh. He will be sorely missed but is now with the Father and without pain or suffering.

Rick is preceded in death by his father and mother, Luther Thomas Toland, Jr. and Betty Grace Pritchard Toland. Rick is survived by his wife, Pamela Turner Toland; his sisters, Regina Bunn (Terry), and Faye Evans (Norm); his sons, Michael Shane Toland (Catie), Brad Davis Toland (Piper), and Jonathan Edwards (Lyndi); his daughter, Ashton Denise Bennett (Jeremy); his nieces and nephew, Robin Bridges, Marie Golden, Brandi Carpenter, and Tommy Evans. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jessica Buford (Jerome), Joshua Toland, Tanner Toland, Beatty Toland, Sloan Toland, Declen Bennett, Bayler Bennett, Grayam Bennett, Landry Bennett, Braelynn Edwards, Lyla Edwards, and Maddy Jo Edwards; and great-grandchildren, Brody Buford, Addi-Kate Buford, and Beckett Buford.
