Roy Drake, age 77, of Griffin Georgia passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Piedmont Henry Hospital.
Roy Drake was born April 11, 1942 in Atlanta, GA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Reva and Leroy Drake; his 6 siblings, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Hattie, James, Rufus, and Rodgers; son, Antonio; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mount Zion Second Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Emery Searcy. Roy has had numerous jobs during his lifetime, but he is best known for more than 60 years as a photographer. He always had his camera with him.
On May 30 1979, Roy became a member of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). He devoted the rest of his life to be in service to support, aid, and mentor others who want to be sober. His motto was “One Day At A Time.” He looked forward to celebrating his sobriety birthday in May just as much as his earthly birthday in April. He would never celebrate before May 30th. It had to be on or after that day.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Sandra Jones Drake; 3 daughters, Angela Crisler (Jack), Gabraella Drake-Forte and Tonalisa Terrell; 3 sons, Rory (Lillian), Phillip (fiancée Lily McKoy) and Roger; 3 granddaughters and 2 great granddaughters; sister in law Roxanna Talmadge (Nathaniel); brother and sister-in-law John and Gayle Jones; several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Especially, his fellow members of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
A visitation will be Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, A funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home.
