Mr. Roy F. Wimpy, age 86 of Griffin, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Wimpy was born on July 7, 1932 in Dahlonega, Georgia.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Franklin Wimpy and Fannie Mae Pruitt Wimpy; his wife, Trevelene Vines Wimpy; brothers, Henley Wimpy and Carl Wimpy.

Roy (Pops) Wimpy served this county from 1953 to 1956 in the Army. He also served in the National Guard. Roy married Trevelene Vines in 1953 and shared 50 years of marriage until her death in 2004. Roy met his life partner, Vivian Landrum in 2006 and has shared 13 years of memories with her. Roy is a servant of the Lord and a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.  Roy enjoyed reading his Bible. He was a wonderful painter and spent many years painting homes throughout Griffin and surrounding counties. Pops was a simple man who enjoyed fast cars, racing( dirt and drag racing), flying airplanes with Scott, helping Scott restore cars, and antique car shows.  Although Pops was a man of few words, he never met a stranger and enjoyed talking about old cars and racing. But, his most favorite thing was eating good southern food cooked by family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Wimpy is survived by his Life Partner, Vivian Landrum; son, Scott Wimpy and wife Kay, daughter, Robyn Turner and husband Tony; brothers and sisters, Loy (Bud) Wimpy and Annie Mae, Allen Wimpy and Elaine, Marjorie Mason, Melvin Wimpy, Jeff Wimpy and Tracie, Jack Wimpy and Donna, Wiley Wimpy and Hazel; grandchildren,  Daniel Farrell and Kandice, Jeremy Farrell and Aryn, Ashley Luna, Abby Underwood and Gary,  Paige Hill and Caleb, Megan Bell and Nick; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

A visitation for Mr. Roy F. Wimpy will be Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home.  Following the visitation, a funeral service will be conducted in the Chapel.

Mr. Wimpy’s family would like for anyone who has a classic car or truck to bring it Saturday to the funeral home to be displayed in Roy’s memory.
