Rudolph Bullard, age 79, died Sunday, May 9, 2021 after a brief illness. He was born in Varnville, SC, raised in Ashburn, Ga, and made his home in Griffin, Georgia for over 52 years. The son of Oscar and Magaline Campbell Bullard, he was born on July 24, 1941. He graduated from Turner County High School in 1959. His dad died when he was only 13 years old, and from then on, he felt a strong responsibility to care for his family. Rudolph and his brother worked in many odd jobs as children to help their mom care for their four sisters.
In 1961, Rudolph graduated from South Georgia Technical School with a degree in Aircraft Mechanics. Following graduation, he volunteered to go to Vietnam by enlisting in the Air Force. He felt honored to serve his country. After the war, Rudolph worked at Delta Airlines as an aircraft mechanic. It was a job he dearly loved and one that he stayed in for over 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, working in his garden, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Bullard was a loving and kind husband, father, friend, and grandfather. He took great joy in helping others and most of all he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was involved in many areas of ministry at First Baptist Church of Griffin. He served in the furniture ministry, was a greeter, a loyal member of the Bolton Sunday School Class, worked on the grounds committee, and in so many other areas. He loved eating breakfast and lunch around Griffin every day, and was blessed by all the people he considered friends. He was a talker, but also a great listener. He could tell you a little about a lot of things, and a lot about some. He was a humble man although very generous with his time, talents and money. Everybody that knew him certainly has a “Rudy Story'' to tell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Magaline Bullard, his siblings Charles “Buddy” Bullard, Peggy Sanders, Jenelle Cleghorn, and Betty Thacker. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife of over 52 years, Martha Smith Bullard, Griffin, his children, Linda Bullard Colwell (Chris), Milledgeville, Sandra Bullard Long (Wes), Griffin, Marianne Bullard Hammond (Trey), Molena, and Edward Bullard (Tonya), Peachtree City, grandchildren, Amanda (Isaac) Rogers, Chase (Ashley) Colwell, Andrew Colwell, Caroline Long, Gray Long, Abby Grayce Norton, Emily Resmondo, Ansley Resmondo, Lila Claire Bullard, Jack Hammond, Taylor Hammond, one great-grandchild, Cohen Rogers, and a sister, Juanita Davis, Dothan, AL, sisters-in-law Mary Jane Spivey and Marian Allen, Forsyth, and many friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.
